Secrets Of Photo-Realistic Painting

  1. Sketch The Whole Image: Line draw everything and make sure it’s accurate. This step is very important and has the biggest impact on your painting. All the other steps depend on this sketch layer and at the end this layer will be deleted. You can also use grid on the photo and your painting to make sketching easier.
  2. Paint Base Color: This is the color that has no highlight or shadow. Find the base color for every section like skin, hair, lips, etc.
  3. Paint Shadows: This is the color that has no highlight or is not the base color. This does not mean paint black. Not all shadows are black. Determine what the exact color is and paint that.
  4. Paint Highlights: This is the color that has no shadow or is not the base color. This does not mean paint white. Not all highlights are white. Determine what the exact color is and paint that.
  5. Fine Details: Zoom in every section and paint the fine details (skin pores are optional). This step can take a long time depending on how realistic you want your painting to be.

Happy painting.
